Abstract
Herbert Mayo, in 1833, was the first to describe the condition now known as Pilonidal cyst. The term “pilonidal” derived from the Latin, meaning hair, nest, was first applied to sinuses in the sacral region by Hodges in 1880.
There are many case-reports of pilonidal cyst in Europe and America, however the report is rare in Japan.
We have experienced two cases of pilonidal cyst, and have found the hair looking like the hair of the head.
