Abstract
We report our experience with 9 patients in which spinal deformities were treated by means of halo-pelvic traction and Harrington instrumentation, There were 4 patients with kyphosis due to neurofibromatosis, Klippel-Feil's disease with spondilitis tuberculosa, Morquio's disease and laminectomy of the cervical region, 4 patients with idiopathic scoliosis and a patient with dislocation of the atlanto-axial joint and os odonteudium.
In the kyphotic curve, it is necessary for the relief of myelopathy that spinal osteotomy and subvertrebrectomy for decompression of the spinal cord have been made at first. After maximal reduction of the deformity by halo traction anterior strut bone graft and posterior spinal fusion was performed. In severe and rigid scoliotic curvature wedge osteotomy was made in several segments at the apex of the curve.
