Abstract

Recently, fourty-five-year-old man with the tumor of the scapula was treated in our hospital. A week after admission, total scapulectomy was performed.
Histological examination showed an angiosarcoma (malignant hemangioendothelioma) of the scapula.
Angiosarcoma often occurs in the soft tissue, but that of bone is rarely reported in the past. To our knowlege, twenty-one cases with angiosarcoma of bone, 0.22 percent of the primary bone tumor, have been reported in Japan from 1972 to 1977. One of those cases originated in the scapula and was extremely rare.
