This study aimed to qualitatively examine changes in learners’ image during judo class. The participants were first-year students from one class at a national institute of technology. Data included report and questionnaire surveys. Qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. Throughout the unit, 28 students (74%) experienced a change in their image of judo, while 10 students (26%) reported no change. Among those who experienced a change, 25 students (89%) shifted from a negative image before the unit to a positive image afterward.Factors contributing to this change included improved safety awareness through the acquisition of basic movements such as ukemi, the reduction of psychological barriers, and clear, step-by-step instruction within a supportive classroom atmosphere. Furthermore, t the implementation of instructional strategies such as group activities and ICT integration indicates that positive shifts in perception can be achieved without placing predominant emphasis on the practical components inherent to judo.
