Abstract
Studies were undertaken to determine the nutritive significance of- the unabsorbed yolk in day-old male chicks of White Leghorn and to trace the process of its decomposition. The used chicks were divided into 3 groups and the first group was fed nothing, the second and the third was fed only skim-milk and starch respectively, immediately after hatching.
The unabsorbedr yolk, the contents of intestine and the total droppings of chicks were analysed and their total N, total S, non-protein N and S were determined. Their free amino, acid were also detected by means of paper chromatography.
The results revealed that after hatching, chicks could -not utilize all unabsorbed- yolk through as their nutritive resources and after about 2 days old they excreted the yolk through intestine.
