Abstract
The essential oils of Solidago virgaurea Linn. ssp. asiatica Kitamura (Japanese name, “Akinokirinsou”, samples I, II, III and IV), S. virgaurea Linn. ssp. gigantea (Nakai) Kitamura (“Ooakinokirinsou”, sample V) and S. virgaurea Linn. leiocarpa (Benth.) Hulten (“Miyamaakinokirinsou”, samples VI and VII) of the family Compositaea were prepared from fresh total aerial parts, and were investigated by gas chromatographic and mass spectrometric analyses.
Sixty-eight components were positively identified in the essential oils of these three subspecies, including 23 monoterpenoids, 26 sesquiterpenoids and 19 miscellaneous compounds. The characteristic compounds of the essential oils were α-pinene, β-myrcene, limonene, δ-elemene, β-cubenene, β-elemene, β-caryophyllene, trans-β-farnesene, germacrene-D, germacrene-B, δ-cadinene, caryophyllene oxide, spathulenol, α-cadinol and benzyl benzoate.
