In 2040, the baby boomer junior generation, who is now leading the youth’s return to rural areas, will become elderly. By that time, it will be an era where people can enjoy a fulfilling lifestyle in both rural and urban areas. Therefore, I drew a rural image 20 years later from four scenarios. It can be seen that a sustainable rural village can be realized under the “local decentralized scenario” in which the social infrastructure technology can be miniaturized, the SDGs philosophy is shared among the people, and the conditions for social transformation are complete. Activities close to that scenario can be found today in local projects in various regions. In a different form from updating old plans and systems, the process of realizing the decentralized scenario should be considered now in order to enhance the value of rural life.
