Abstract

This study explores the use of chemical fertilizer per-area in large-scale rice farming management since the 2010s from an environmental perspective. Using case studies of large-scale rice farms in the city of Sado, this study identified the following points. The decline in rice prices has led to an increase in the average use of chemical fertilizers, caused by a higher proportion of feed rice being planted. Furthermore, even if rice prices recover and staple rice planting expands, the use of chemical fertilizers could increase as yields or quality decreases.
