Anatomical study of the blood-vessels in the forearm of the horse is important for the operation of phlebotomy on the cephalic vein and for the amputation of the medial nerve. Investigations of previous authors on the blood-vessels of the forearm of the horse, however, are far from satisfaction. This state of things has induced me to make statistical observations on the subcutaneous vessels of the forearm of the horse, especially on the subcutaneous veins.
The material of my study w as from fifty hybrid horses, which were kept in the stable of the Kitasato Institute of Medical Research, Tokio. Forty-nine of them were females and the remaining one was the male which had previously been castrated.
The method I used wa s simply this; a part of the elbow was tied around with a piece of rubber-tubing, that caused the blood-vessel to distend.
