With the administration of radioactive, sulfate, and alkaline spring waters some desirable effects have been reported on the uric acid metabolism in gout.
With simple thermal water, however, these have not yet been confirmed. In this report effects of Shimobe (simple thermal) water upon the purine metabolism were studied in human subjects by the determination of both orate and oxypurine in plasma and urine respectively. It was observed that oral administration of Shimobe thermal water for three days in succession increased the urinary excretions of urate and oxypurine and decreased their plasma levels.
