Uterus transplantation (UTx) has become an alternative to gestational surrogacy and adoption for women with uterine factor infertility. Unlike other life-threatening organ transplants, the purpose of UTx is to have a child. It is also a temporary organ transplant in which the uterus is removed and the immunosuppressive drugs are discontinued once the goal is achieved. UTx is unique compared to other organ transplants in that it is followed by pregnancy, but there are many issues associated with pregnancy and delivery to be considered. Preterm delivery, low birth weight, and rejection during pregnancy have been observed in some pregnancies after UTx. However, further clinical development of UTx is expected to increase the overcall number of pregnancies after organ transplantation in the future.
