Abstract
We report a case of giant pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid gland.
A 50-year-old female presented with a giant tumor in the left facial region that had grown to 20×16cm in size over the previous few years, in the absence of facial nerve palsy. Contrast-enhanced CT and MRI suggested a benign tumor arising from the left parotid gland.
The tumor was removed surgically. It measured 19.5×12.0×15.0cm in size, and weighed 3.75 kilograms. The pathological diagnosis was benign pleomorphic adenoma. Until now, 6 months postoperatively after the surgery, Neither facial nerve palsy nor tumor recurrence has been observed.
Parotid tumors must be treated at an early stage, regardless of whether the tumor is benign or malignant, because of the high risk of postoperative complications and recurrence in cases with giant tumors.
