Abstract
We describe the effective and safe use of a navigational device in endoscopic frontal sinus surgery. The anatomy around the frontal recess is complex, and the tip of the curved apparatus is difficult to see because of the limited flexibility of the views by 70 degrees-endoscope. To overcome these difficulties and obtain easier access during operation, we have developed a new procedure as follows ; curved forceps and microdebriders are pre-calibrated by ICM4 as navigation probes. Next, some points of interest are pre-marked by the labeled point planning function. During operation, we confirm on the navigation screen the angle and the direction at which the forceps and microdebriders hit the objective. We have labeled this method as nose-shaped navigation.
