A 49-year-old male with soft palate neoplasm was treated with Cis-platinum. Cis-platinum was given intrvenously during 5 months and the total dose was 600mg. The patient died 3.5 months after the treatment. Morphological study of the organ of Corti was conducted by scanning electron microscopy.
The following findings were observed.
1) Although loss of hair cells was seen sporadically, damage was severest in the lower turn.
2) Outer hair cells were more severely damaged than inner hair cells.
3) The first row of the outer hair cells tend to be more severely damaged.
4) Supporting cells were also damaged.
