Effect of ifenprodil tartrate on the perilymphatic oxygen tension was studied using the polarographic technique, a reliable method to estimate the level of oxygenation in the inner ear. In order to estimate statistically the effect of the drug, an on-line digital analyzing system was used where the physiological parameters as perilymphatic oxygen tension, systemic blood pressure (SBP), and central venous pressure were 12 bit digitally converted and analyzed. Experiments were conducted on 6 cats. On one cat, as a new trial, effect of ifenprodil tartrate was examined under hypoxic condition. The results are as follows; 1) The perilymphatic oxygen tension did not follow the decrease in SBP and stayed unchanged when 500 micrograms/kg of ifenprodil tartrate was intravenously administrated. 2) This tendency was more pronounced under hypoxic condition.
