When guinea pigs are killed by decapitation, HRP leakage out of the strial capillaries and blood sludging in them are observed. This phenomenon is thought to be caused by shock of decapitation, because this phenomenon is not observed when cochleas are fixed before decapitation. It is very interesting whether blood sludging and HRP leakage are observed or not when steroid hormone is injected before decapitation.
1) cochleas fixed three minutes after decapitation: HRP leakage is observed in almost strial vessels (86%), and blood sluding in 98% of strial capillaries. 2) steroid hormone is injected before decapitation: Blood sludging is not observed in 46% of strial capillaries. The capillaries without both blood sludging and HRP leakage are 25%. It is considered that steroid hormone prevents blood sludging and HRP leakage to appear after decapitation.
If sudden deafness is attributed to blood sludging of strial capillaries, steroid hormone is effective to this disease.
