Parent‐ion formation with little fragmentation has been observed by intense laser‐pulse excitation of some aromatic molecules. These characteristics should be of great use, allowing the use of femtosecond laser mass spectrometry (FLMS) in detecting polychlorinated compounds. The key factor inducing parent‐ion predominance is to prevent the excitation laser wavelength and the absorption spectrum of the target cation from resonating with each other.
