New technology for ultrahigh‐density hard disk drive

Abstract

A hard disk drive using magnetic recording is the core storage device of today. In this article, I report the current status of this hard disk drive and the technologies that enable the realization of a high areal density, such as perpendicular recording, tunnel magnetoresistive heads, patterned media, probe storage, and cylinder storage.
