Design of high NA aspherical single lens for optical disc system

Abstract

Optical disc systems employing a lens with an NA of 0.85 are now available in the market, as next generation optical disc system with high spatial density. However, it is not possible to avoid the occurrence of high-order aberrations in such optical disc systems with a high- NA aspherical single lens. This paper describes the design of a lens that suppresses high-order aberrations and tolerates the occurrence of low-order aberrations.
