Owing to the progress in the laser cooling technique, Bose-Einstein condensates and Fermi degenerate gases have been successfully produced for several atomic species. Recently, progress has been made in the study of many-body physics such as that of strongly correlated systems using an optical lattice. We will describe the results of research on quantum simulation and its future prospects, in addition to our approach using ytterbium atoms.
