Abstract

Cryocoolers have been used mainly for cryopumps in a semiconductor manufacturing process and for cooling the low temperature superconducting (LTS) magnets of MRI, NMR and MCZ,and other R&D applications. Current cryocoolers with a compact regeneration system can make their cooling temperature as low as 4K. Moreover, high temperature superconducting(HTS) technology development and R&D works of applications have been accelerated. However, currently available cryocoolers have appropriate temperatures, but their cooling capacities are not well suitable for the applications. In this paper, after the introduction of current cryocoolers, additional requirements and suggestions for HTS applications are discussed.
