Abstract
Recently, a new material that is both ferroelectric and ferroelastic in a wide temperature range including room temperature has been discovered. This material with chemical formula Gd2(MoO4)3 promises peculiar applications in the field of optoelectronics and other fields. In this article, first, the concept of “ferroelasticity” being explained, a theoretical consideration is made of general ferroelastic materials and general ferroelectric-ferroelastic materials not limited to Gd2(MoO4)3, and subsequently mention is made of the fundamental characters of Gd2(MoO4)3 as ferroelectric-ferroelastic material.
