Abstract
Ferroelectric and ferroelastic Gd2(MoO4)3 seems to promise new functional applications in the field of optoelectronics and others. In this article, the characteristics of this material and new effects are shown and discussed phenomenologicaly in comparison with ordinary ferroelectrics. Examples of new applications using the coupling phenomena between ferroelectricity and ferroelasticity such as piezoelectric transducers, optical shutters, and color modulators, are also mentioned.
