Technology for Utlization of Plant Biomass is Essencial in 21st Century in Japan

Abstract

Civilization in 20th century dependent on fossil resource faces to the end, and plant biomass energy must be main factor for establishment of sustainable world. In 20th century, countries having oil became in rich, and those with plant biomass will be strong in 21st century. As Japan has become strong country in 20th century without oil, because of high level of science and technology, biotechnology will be a core technology in 21st century in Japan to maintain the country. The activity of Society of Biotechnology, Japan covers the field of biotechnology from upstream to downstream for utilization of plant biomass. This big change of civilization cannot be established without understanding and cooperation by wide range of scientists and technologist.
