Distributed Virtual Factory for Decision Support

Abstract

This paper discusses the necessity to model a total manufacturing system for the effective support of decision making in the planning and operational stages under the highly networked environment with advanced information technology. A distributed virtual factory, representing a total manufacturing system, is proposed as a decision support platform. The importance to estimate the manufacturing cost based on the simulation data is also discussed from the viewpoint of an index for the performance evaluation of the system.
