Abstract
The authors have studied functional electrical stimulation with surface electrodes (S-FES) for the purpose of rehabilitation and motion assistance. As for the stimulation wave profile, the authors have applied biphasic burst-modulated square waves, i.e. square waves that are frequency-modulated by burst waves. This report examines parameters of the stimulation waves suitable for motion assistance, especially for the assistance of the elbow flexion. In subjective experiments, exerted muscle force in each value of wave profile parameters are investigated.
