How to Enhance Information Quality to Create Effective Disaster Mitigation Information?

Abstract

Information through hazard maps has been provided to reduce the damage from natural disasters through risk-averse behavior, such as moving house from hazardous area to safer location. In Japan, to promote risk-averse decision making at housing location selection, confirming safety from floods by showing flood hazard maps, have been obligated since 2020, before signing a real estate transaction contract. In this study, we review the effects of the provision of flood hazard map to reduce damage to housing and household belongings, and more effective provisional ways of flood hazard maps.
