Abstract

Efforts to measure and promote research excellence have traditionally been grounded in citation metrics and various indices. However, the plethora of stakeholders involved in science and the diversity of research excellence can often lead to the twin pitfalls of oversimplification and overcomplication when relying solely on quantitative metrics. In this context, we integrate recent insights from the science of science with our research findings about sleeping beauties to argue for the importance of research intelligence in identifying quality research within a transdisciplinary evaluation landscape.
