Flexible automation is traditionally a generic expression referring to automation methods and technologies applicable to various manufacturing operations in limited production of diversified products and mass customization. Its concept encompasses multiple aspects of manufacturing, such as intelligent sensing and control, innovative process modeling, lean/agile manufacturing, emerging products, and cyber-physical systems.
