Abstract

This paper describes the effects of stress ratio on the ΔKth improved by overload. Stainless steel SUS316 was prepared as test materials. Tensile overload was applied to compact tension specimen, subsequently fatigue tests were carried out at stress ratio R=0.5. The main conclusions are as follows; (1) The value of ΔKth increased with increasing of the tensile overload. (2) The improvement of ΔKth depended on the stress ratio. (3) Effect of overload improves the fatigue limit of material with crack, which improves safety and reliability.
