The objective of the present study is to investigate the effects of ultrasonic irradiation on the crystalline form of L-asparaginic acid produced in the cooling crystallization process. In experiments, the 28 kHz horn-type transducer was installed vertically into the aqueous solution, the supersaturation degree of which was chosen so as to be 1.0 and 1.5. The products crystallized by changing irradiation time and irradiation power were subjected to morphology and XRD observation. The results confirmed that the rod-like crystal was formed reasonably by the ultrasonic irradiation, while in the case of the conventional cooling process, the plate-like crystal was observed. The results also confirmed that the ultrasonic irradiation exerts an influence on the crystalline growth rate. XRD patterns of the produced crystalline also verified the difference in the crystalline type.
