Abstract
Fluorescence properties of Mn ions in oxide compounds for red-emitting phosphors were investigated. The fluorescence spectrum of Mg4Ta2O9 sample via excitation at 254 nm has a broad band centered at about 660 nm due to the 4T1→6A1 transition of Mn2+. The fluorescence spectrum of CaAl12O19 sample exhibits a narrow band between 600 - 750 nm with three peaks located at 643, 656, and 666 nm due to the 2E→4A2 transition of Mn4+. The measured CIE chromaticity values of Mg4Ta2O9: Mn2+ and CaAl12O19: Mn4+ samples are x=0.713, y=0.287 and x=0.714, y=0.276, respectively.
