Abstract
We prepared powder of the mixture of metal-EDTA complexes formed by a spray-drying apparatus having a two-fluid nozzle that has an ability to vary the atomizing air pressure from 40 kPa to 100 kPa. The metal-EDTA powders were thermally decomposed in the electric furnace to synthesize the phosphor materials. Scanning electron microscopy and the particle size distribution analysis were performed to evaluate varying the atomizing air pressure to reduce the particle size. Relatively fine (Y, Eu)-EDTA and Y2O3:Eu powders were obtained by this spray dryer. In addition, the particle size of the powders was reduced with increasing the atomizing air pressure. The shape of (Y, Eu)-EDTA and Y2O3:Eu powders is spherical and shows no aggregation characteristic.
