Abstract
Densification of 8 mol% yttria-doped zirconia (8YZ) occurred at relatively high temperature region in comparison with that of 3 mol% yttria-doped zirconia (3YZ). However, grain growth of the former zirconia was appreciably faster than that of the latter one. These data indicate that yttria inhibits densification of zirconia but enhances its grain growth. This inconsistency is discussed
