Abstract

ZrW₂O₈ is a metastable and low thermal-expansion material. The single-phase ZrW₂O₈ is prepared by quenching into water or liquid N₂. In the case of quenching in air, ZrW₂O₈ partially decomposes. However, ZrW₂O₈ with additives such as SiO₂, Cr₂O₃, La₂O₃, and Nb₂O₅ did not decompose into ZrO₂ and WO₃.
