Abstract
Calcium hydroxide powder was fabricated from calcium nitrate solution. The powder was heated in CO2 atmosphere at different pressures and the change in weight was measured to monitor the reaction between hydroxide and CO2. At high Pco2, the direct reaction between hydroxide and CO2 took place to form calcium carbonate. At low Pco2, the hydroxide first decomposed into oxide and then reacted with CO2 to form calcium carbonate. The decomposition could not be suppressed in CO2 which was saturated with H2O at room temperature.
