Abstract
Ceramic membranes for gas separation have increasing attention because of their promising applications at higher temperatures and in chemically severer environments compared to polymer membranes. In this study, Polymeric precursor-derived microporous ceramic membranes with Si-O and other multicomponent systems have been synthesized on a porous ceramic support. As a typical result, the Si-O membrane exhibited hydrogen permselectivity explained by the molecular sieving mechanism, and H2/N2 selectivity of 137 and H2 permeance of 1.3 x 10-8 mol/m2 ·sec ·Pa were achieved at 573 K. The effects of chemical composition and chemical processing conditions on the membrane properties will be discussed from a view point of the micro-pore structure control for the hydrogen permselectivity through polymeric precursor route.
