Abstract
ZrO2-Al2O3 composite powder was synthesized by the coprecipitation technique using chlorides as starting materials. Through this method, nano-sized powder (50nm) can be obtained. After forming operations of this powder, pressure-less sintering was performed under various sintering conditions avoiding grain growth. Pore size distribution of sintered body was measured. Due to the starting nano-powder feature and systematic sintering treatment, nano-sized pores were developed. General powder characteristics and mechanical properties of sintered bodies were investigated. The synthesized porous composite is expected to be potential precursor for applications as nano-filtration materials in the field of environmental industry. In this paper, pore size distribution explained as a function of sintering conditions and the Al 2 O 3 content is discussed. Other possible applications for this composite are also discussed.
