We made an investigation into the effect of 90° domain walls on dielectric response in ferroelectrics using barium titanate (BaTiO3) single grains in which different numbers of 90° domain walls were introduced by applying electric fields. In this study, we prepared thin BaTiO3 ceramic wires consisting of single grains joined together in series and used single grains, with a diameter of 10-50μm, formed in the ceramic wires. Measurements of the dielectric properties of BaTiO3 single grains were carried out with an impedance analyzer at 1MHz at room temperature. The obtained results demonstrated that the dielectric constant and dielectric loss of a single grain both showed manifest dependencies on the number of 90° domain walls introduced. Typically, the dielectric constant changed systematically with the volume ratio of a-domain to c-domain and the dielectric loss increased by about 0.1% for every additional 1A~104μm2 area of 90° domain walls.
