Abstract
Polycrystalline perovskite type oxides, SrZrO3 and SrCeO3, have been prepared by mixing the appropriate amounts of ZrO2, CeO2, and SrCO3 followed by reacting at 1273 K and sintering at 1773 K in an oxidative atmosphere. The oxygen concentration of the samples has been identified by using an oxygen analyzer HORIBA EMGA-550. The longitudinal and shear sound velocities have been measured by an ultrasonic pulse-echo method at room temperature in air, which enables us to evaluate the elastic moduli and the Debye temperature. Hardness measurements have also been performed using a micro-Vickers hardness tester. The relationships between several properties, for example ″Young′s modulus and Vickers hardness″ and ″Debye temperature and melting point″, have been studied.
