Structure-changes during the heat treatment process of electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD) were studied using x-ray and neutron diffraction-pattern simulation, small angle and total neutron scattering technique. The main structure of EMD changed from ramsdellite to pyrolusite around 400°C and the MnO6 octahedra of EMD exhibit smaller distortion around 200°C while tunnel size decreased and crystallite size grew larger with the heat treatment. The relationships between the structure and electrode properties will be discussed.
