Abstract
In preparation of Calcium Phosphate Cement (CPC) consisting of Ca4(PO4)2O (TeCP) and CaHPO4 (DCPA), the effects of DCPA morphology on the CPC setting behavior was studied. Two types of DCPA were prepared by treating commercially available DCPA with ethanol (E-DCPA) or the distilled water (W-DCPA), and were evaluated as starting materials for CPC. Both of DCPA consisted of fine primary particles, but the primary particles only for W-DCPA appeared to coagulate strongly and formed secondary particles. In preparing CPC paste by mixing CPC with the distilled water, CPC with W-DCPA showed desired formability compared with one with E-DCPA. It also showed the short setting times of 10min at 37oC and 60min at 25oC. These properties of CPC with W-DCPA were most likely due to the high packing density of CPC powder and high solubility of DCPA contained, resulting from the coagulated morphology of fine primary particles for W-DCPA.
