An anatase film was formed on a titanium substrate through two solution processes. The titanium substrate was first treated with the mixed solution of calcium chloride and potassium hydroxide at 150°C for 24 h to deposit a calcium titanate layer on it. At the second process, the calcium titanate layer was etched in the dilute hydrochloric acid solution (pH<2.6) over 120°C, then anatase formed on the surface of the coated substrate. The surface area of the film was 250-300 times larger than that of untreated substrate. The fine crystals of hydroxyapatite precipitated on the coated surface, after the soaking in the simulated body fluid for 7days at 37°C. The film was expected to have the biocompatibility.
