Abstract

Intense mechanoluminescence(ML) has been observed in Mn-doped zinc silicate phosphor with the naked eyes in the dark atmosphere. The ML spectrum agrees well with photoluminescence. The ML intensity increases with increasing the mechanical stress. We assume that the ML of Mn-doped zinc silicate phosphor arises from piezoelectric effect and electroluminescence.
