Preparation and optical properties of high silica glasses with high ultraviolet transmission

Abstract

The preparation of the high silica glass with high ultraviolet transmission is reported. The alkali borosilicate glass with a little of oxidizing agent was phase separated and the impurity of the Fe ion in the SiO₂-rich phase was decreased.The high silica glass thus obtained after acid-treated was sintered and the glass sintered exhibited an excellent transmittance up to the 185nm. The preparing procedure and effect of the oxidizing agent were investigated.
