Abstract
A new powder-synthesis technique has been developed for CaSiAlN3, which is potentially used as a host material for red-emitting phosphor for white PC-LEDs, using the gas-reduction—nitridation method (GRN). Optimization of the processing conditions enabled the preparation of highly phase-pure, fine CaSiAlN3 powders in the temperature range of 1365—1375oC and the soaking time of 4 h. The synthesized CaSiAlN3 powders possessed superior properties for phosphor applications: high phase purity of ~95%, minimal impurity absorption in the visible spectral region, and well-dispersed uniform particle morphology.
