Abstract
Transparent silica glasses were obtained by sintering a green compact of high-purity silica glass powder. Optimum sintering temperature for fabricating transparent silica glass was above 1400˚C in a high-vacuum (10-4 Pa) atmosphere. We observed sintering process by in situ UV raman measuerments. The relationships between transparency and glass structure (D1 and D2) of sintering conditions were discussed.
