We have developed new functional coatings on glass and two examples are shown in this report. One is a water-repellent coating, which is prepared from mixtures of polymerized tetraethoxysilane, trialkoxysilyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane and fluoroalkylsilane. The resultant coating shows good practical durability for practical use of water-repellent windshields for automobiles. Another is an infrared-cut coating, which is prepared by using silica thick film and ITO fine particles as an infrared-absorbing material. This coating shows excellent mechanical strength and infrared-absorbing ability and has been used for automotive sidelites.
