Applications of thermal spray technology in the medical field

Abstract

Artificial joints are widely used in the orthopedic field. In order to improve the intraosseous fixation of cement-less implant, we have developed titanium rough-surface coating method by the inert gas shielded arc spray and hydroxyapatite coating method by the flame spray (PROARC HA). It has been reported that the artificial hip joints utilizing PROARC HA technology showed long-term clinical results.
