Effect of the Addition of Vanadium Oxide on the Fabrication of SiC Refractory

Abstract

Effect of the addition of V₂O₅ on the fabrication of SiC refractory using aqueous slip casting was studied. For preparing the SiC slurry with V₂O₅, it was the problem that the fluidity of SiC slurry was decreased with the addition of V₂O₅. ICP-AES measurements showed that the V concentration of the slurry was increased with increasing the milling time for preparing the slurry. Then we could improve the fluidity of the slurry by adding V₂O₅ just before slip casting. XPS measurements of SiC body with V₂O₅ showed that the V 2p_3/2 spectra was shift lower energy by firing at 1300ºC.
